Senior General Min Aung Hlaing meets Thai ex-Prime Minister in PyinOoLwin



Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing met with former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra in Pyin Oo Lwin in Mandalay on April 16, the last day of Myanmar water festival), according to a posting on a Facebook site.


The photograph showed that the former Thai Prime Minister sprinkled water on Senior General Min Aung Hlaing with the use of a wet long leaf of Thabyay, a symbol of victory in the future.

The ousted Thai premier wrote in Thai that he expressed delights at seeing the Senior General and happening to the participation in Myanmar Buddhists’ New Year, its observance known as the water festival or Thingyan.

He also wrote that he visited the hill town for the first time and he liked its weather very much and fell into a sound sleep.

The former Thai PM also met with President Thein Sein in November last year, holding discussions on Myanmar’s political and economic reforms, future prospects of ASEAN and regional matters.

Thaksin, the elder brother of current Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, on March 21 flew to Dawei in Myanmar where a special economic zone is planned and the multimillion-dollar Dawei deep-sea port project has been under construction.

He visited Maungmaganboat island and Longlonboat island as well as Dawei deep seaport and stopped over for the night there.

Sources said Thaksin is interested in purchasing property in PyinOoLwin, as well as investing in the islands of Dawei. Similarly, Singaporean businessmen have also expressed interest in the construction fo the resorts on the island.
